What is Xeomin®?

Xeomin® is an FDA-approved cosmetic injectable used to temporarily relax facial muscles that contract and cause lines and wrinkles to appear, particularly frown lines that develop between the eyebrows. Like Botox, Xeomin is composed of botulinum toxin type A, which temporarily relaxes the treated muscles to smooth away unwanted signs of aging around the upper third of the face. However, unlike Botox, Xeomin does not contain additional proteins that can make patients resistant and begin to see a decline in results over time. As such, Xeomin has been dubbed “naked Botox.”

Where Can Xeomin Be Applied?

Xeomin® is used to treat dynamic wrinkles and fine lines caused by muscle contractions in the upper third of the face, such as:

Glabellar lines between the eyebrows
Crow’s feet around the eyes
Horizontal forehead lines
Chin wrinkles
Smoker’s lines
Lines along the bridge of the nose

How Does Xeomin Work?

When you squint, frown, laugh, or smile, the muscles between your eyebrows and around your eyes contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. As your skin ages and loses elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent lines and wrinkles.

Botulinum toxin type A – the active ingredient in XEOMIN®– causes these muscles to relax by blocking the communication between nerve endings and their surrounding muscles. The result is a temporary reduction in facial animation and wrinkles. As such,
Repeat treatments are necessary to maintain the softening of facial furrows, lines, and creases.

Results

Most patients notice smoother skin in as little as 3 to 4 days following a Xeomin injection, with results lasting up to 4 months. For optimal results, longer- lasting results, we typically recommend regular treatments every three months.
